Speaking · Part 2

Long turn. About 4 minutes. Choose two of three pictures and compare them for a minute, answering two questions, then answer a short question about your partner's pictures.

How it works: the examiner's words are read aloud (you can also read them). Tap Start speaking and answer before the time runs out. If you like, record yourself and listen to your answer – the recording stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.

About C1 Advanced Speaking Part 2

  • Task: Long turn – about 4 minutes. Each candidate talks for 1 minute about two of three pictures, answering two questions, then answers a short question (about 30 seconds) about the other candidate's pictures.
  • What it tests: comparing, speculating, evaluating and expressing opinions.

How to do it

  1. Choose two pictures quickly and compare them.
  2. Answer both questions printed above the pictures.
  3. Use advanced language for speculating and evaluating.

Example answer

Task: Look at two of the pictures (people waiting at an airport / in a hospital / at a bus stop). Why might they be waiting, and how might they be feeling?

Good answer (beginning): “I’ll talk about the airport and the hospital. The man at the airport seems fairly relaxed – he’s probably on holiday and has just checked in, so the waiting is part of the trip. The woman in the hospital, by contrast, looks rather tense; she may be waiting for news about a relative, which would be far more stressful.”

Why it works: it chooses two pictures, answers both questions and compares them (by contrast), with a range of speculative language (seems, probably, may be, would be).
