How B2 First is scored
Each of the five papers – Reading, Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking – gets its own score on the Cambridge English Scale. Your overall score is the average of the five, and each paper counts the same (20%). The Reading and Use of English paper is one exam paper, but its parts are counted separately: Reading is Parts 1, 5, 6 and 7 and Use of English is Parts 2, 3 and 4.
| Overall score | Result |
|---|---|
| 180–190 | Grade A – you also get a C1 certificate |
| 173–179 | Grade B – pass at B2 |
| 160–172 | Grade C – pass at B2 |
| 140–159 | Level B1 – no B2 First pass, but a B1 certificate |
| Below 140 | No certificate |
You can pass even if one paper is weaker: a high score in another paper makes up for it, because only the average counts.
