About B2 First Use of English Part 2
- Task: Open cloze – a short text with 8 gaps; you write one word in each gap (there are no options). 1 mark per question.
- What it tests: grammar words: articles, prepositions, pronouns, auxiliary verbs, linkers, quantifiers and the parts of phrasal verbs and fixed phrases.
- Suggested time: about 8 minutes.
How to do it
- Read the whole text before you start, then read the sentences around each gap.
- Decide what kind of word is missing: a preposition, an article, an auxiliary verb, a linker…
- Write only one word. A contraction such as "don't" counts as two words.

Example
