Report: useful language
Precise, impersonal language to present findings, evaluate and make recommendations.

A C1 report evaluates something that already exists – a course, a scheme, an event – for a reader who needs to make a decision. The style is formal and impersonal: you present findings objectively, evaluate them, and make clear recommendations. Headings are essential, and so is precise language for quantities and results.

Make it better
The same idea, first in basic English, then in the kind of language that gets a higher mark.
- Basic: Lots of people liked it but some didn't.Better: The vast majority of participants were positive, although a significant minority expressed reservations.Precise quantities and formal language.
- Basic: I found out that nobody knew about it.Better: It emerged that awareness of the scheme was extremely low.Impersonal language sounds objective.
- Basic: The event was not as good as we hoped.Better: The event fell short of expectations.A concise, formal evaluation.
- Basic: You should advertise more.Better: It is strongly recommended that the scheme be advertised more widely.A formal recommendation with the subjunctive.

Make your headings informative: instead of just 'Problems', write 'Problems with publicity'. Informative headings show the examiner that your report is organised around the reader's needs.
